2 Nephi 18 compare Isaiah 8

Isaiah is given a prophecy from the Lord. He records this prophecy with two witnesses. He is told that his wife (the prophetess) will conceive and that before the baby is old enough to call them mother and father "that Assyria will capture Damascus, Syria, Samaria, and Israel" (Parry, Parry & Peterson, 1998 p. 82). The child's name Maher-shalal-hash-baz means "destruction is imminent" (footnote 1b). Parry (1998) parallels this prophecy with the announcement of Jesus birth in Isaiah's preceding chapter. "Both were named by revelation from God, and both entered the world during times of political upheaval and warfare. Maher-shalal-hash-baz prophesies the manner in which Israel would be speedily destroyed and then plundered; likewise, Jesus Christ will come down to judge the world and speedily destroy those who are wicked. Jewish tradition holds that the prophetess belonged to a royal line. If this is indeed true, then Maher-shalal-hash-baz was of royal lineage, as was Jesus Christ" (Parry, 1998 p. 81-82).
